Take Root @ SATOR Projects
My new collection of works, Take Root, explores the universe of colors lurking inside fungi. It will be opening at SATOR Projects on September 7th from 5-7pm and will be on view through November 2nd with a closing event in conversation with Wildcraft Studio School founder Chelsea Heffner from 5-7pm. Displaying the hues created from one massive mushroom, I have installed an exhibition of immersive textile ‘tree totems’ accompanied by a series of textile pieces, mono prints, and photographs. Beginning with a foraged mushroom, I processed the fruiting body into dyes, created lake pigments, photographed the process, mixed and mulled paints and inks, printed monoprints, colored my threads and fibers, and hand-stitched patterns reflecting mycelium networks.

My work is included in the Surfacing exhibition which features art by Washington Surface Design Association artists. Surfacing has a range of meanings, from calls for social change to personal reflection to looking at ourselves and the world in an entirely different way. And nowhere are we better able to express what Surfacing means to each of us than in our artwork. View my piece.
